CET Board of Certification PurposeThe CET Board of Certification (BOC) is an independent board of the National Environmental, Safety and Health Training Association (NESHTA). The BOC meets twice annually. Following is an excerpt from the CET Board of Certification Policies and Procedures: Statement of Purpose The Certified Environmental, Safety, and Health Trainer (CET) is a voluntary certification designation awarded by the Certified Environmental, Safety, and Health Trainer Board of Certification ( the Board ), an independent body of the National Environmental Training Association, Inc. (NETA), which does business as the National Environmental, Safety, and Health Training Association (NESHTA). The purpose of the Certified Environmental, Safety, and Health Trainer (CET) certification is to recognize individuals who have met standards established by the Board for: - experience in the assessment, design, development, implementation, evaluation and management of training
- experience in one or more environmental, safety, or health technical specialty areas
- recommendation by persons familiar with their work
- successfully passing a test designed to measure their knowledge of the basic principles of training adults
- successfully passing one or more tests designed to confirm their knowledge of the technical area(s) for which they apply for certification, or
- possessing and continuing to possess another qualifying certification, license, or professional registration approved by the Board, and
- continuing to meet re-certification requirements through Continuing Professional Development and professional practice.
The purpose of the Certified Instructional Technologist (CIT) certification is to recognize individuals who have met standards established by the Board for: - experience in the assessment, design, development, implementation, evaluation and management of technical and/or scientific training
- experience in oe or more technical and/or scientific fields of endeavor
- recommendation by persons familiar with their work
- successfully passing a test designed to measure their knowledge of the basic principles of training adults, and
- continuing to meet re-certification requirements through Continuing Professional Development and professional practice.
The Board of Certification Membership The Board shall have no fewer than seven (7) or more than fifteen (15) members, the majority of whom shall possess the Certified Environmental, Safety and Health Trainer® (CET) certification awarded by the Board. Those members not possessing a Board certification shall have a professional area of practice that substantially includes or overlaps CET specialty areas. Other than the Public Member, who serves at the pleasure of NESHTA, board members serve no more than two consecutive terms of three (3) years. Former members may reapply for Board membership after a three-year hiatus. If applicants are not available to fill positions, Board members may continue to serve, voluntarily, until replaced. A majority of the Board shall be selected by the sponsoring organization, NESHTA NESHTA selects up to two-thirds (2/3) of the members NESHTA may select members recommended by other cooperating organizations, with no more than two (2) members from any other such organization NESHTA shall select a Public Member, who shall not possess a certification offered by the Board, and The Board itself may select up to one-third (1/3) of the members, exclusive of the NESHTA selections.
Board members who do not hold a Board-awarded certification may not, during their term of service on the Board nor for a period of three (3) years after their service, sit for any Board-affiliated certification. Specialty Areas and Panels The BOC offers certification tests in Instructional Technology and at least one of the following specialties, for which the BOC maintains its own technical specialty area tests: The BOC may recognize other certifications, licenses, or registrations where the qualifications are substantially equivalent to those required by the BOC for its own certifications. Those accredited certifications currently recognized are: - Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
- Certified Health Physicist (CHP)
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN)
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Construction Health and Safety Technologist (CHST)
- Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)
Additionally, the BOC uses wastewater and water operator tests offered by the Association of Boards of Certification (ABC) for the specialty areas Drinking Water Technology and Wastewater Technology. It also recognizes, in lieu of technical testing, those applicants who hold a highest level state operators license in these fields. It also recognizes registrants of the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT) for the Radiation Protection.specialty area. The BOC organizes itself into separate Test Maintenance Panels for each area for which the Board maintains a content test, and designates panels for other tasks, as necessary.
